Unique Pittsburgh Wedding Venues

While most brides dream of traditional ceremonies held in churches or elegant ballrooms, there are some who long for an original venue for their wedding, one that is anything but conventional.

In Pittsburgh, you can find a location that suits you, no matter if want a traditional one or not. We have made a list of various wedding venues to help you select your dream location. We hope that these suggestions will prove useful to you, regardless of party size, specific style or even if you don't know what to choose. You may also mix and match styles, stay faithful to the traditions or be creative.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

If you want to bring out the child inside each of us, try holding the ceremony or the reception at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, on the North Side.

You can choose to marry in the studio of the museum, with a stained-glass window as a background or outside at the recently built park. Afterward, the cocktail hour can be held in the lobby, giving you access to the activities in the studio, where your friends and family can silkscreen T-shirts or tote bags that become wedding souvenirs. Your guest can admire and take pictures throughout the museum with the changing exhibits and enjoy the reception hosted in the Big Red Room.

Engine House 25

If amongst your preferences are baseball, wine, and local history, then Engine House 25 in Lawrenceville is the perfect location for you.

This eclectic and recently furbished building is, in fact, an 1896 firehouse which houses The Clemente Museum. The owner is a photographer named Duane Rieder who decided to open the museum in 2006. Nowadays, couples can have their dream wedding under the vine-covered arbor, in the main room or upstairs, in Rieder’s photography studio. If you are a sports aficionado, choose to have a baseball-themed wedding in this ochre decorated setting, with baseball centerpieces and a specific wedding cake. The owner even puts his photographic skills to use by making custom wine labels for the bride and the groom.

Consol Energy Center

A Pittsburgh Penguins fan won't pass the opportunity of having a reception at the Lexus Club at Consol Energy Center.

This location can't be booked with more than 60 days before the event, but it's worth it, especially due to its impressive wall of windows that displays a stunning view of the city. Depending on the day, the couples can take pictures on the ice. The best moment to have a wedding here, right on the ice, is mid-summer, hockey’s offseason.

Hartwood Acres

If you’ve always wanted to feel like a character from “Downton Abbey,” Hartwood Acres provides you with several regal venues for your special day.

The Formal Garden of the Tudor mansion is a great place to get married from late May until October. The Great Hall in the imposing mansion is adequate for larger events while having the reception on the terrace and in the Hemlock Court.

Carnegie Science Center

The science center is another option for couples that want to tie the knot.

Pick your desired location: organize the ceremony “under the stars” in the Buhl Planetarium or have the event in the Works Theater and grant guests access to the exhibits on the fourth floor.

This location comes with its original benefits for the happy couples: a laser light show, access to telescopes in the observatory or even fogging Liquid Nitrogen drinks.

Heinz Field

If you are obsessed with watching the Stillers, why don't you decide to say your vows at Heinz Field?

This location provides numerous rental spaces for the special events in your life. If you are into football, the right location to hold the wedding reception is the North Club Lounge. It is located next to the playing field and can offer a marvelous view of the city. The East Club Lounge and the Hyundai West Club are more suited for a formal atmosphere.

Ohiopyle State Park

For those who like staying outside and admiring nature's beauty, the best place for their big day would be the Ohiopyle State Park. Here you can discover the Tharp Knob Overlook which offers another stunning view of the Youghiogheny River and the town of Ohiopyle.

Although most couples choose the Youghiogheny River as their venue, you can also opt for the Cucumber Falls.
